AN ATLAS OF CAST GOLD PROCEDURES

Rex Ingraham, B.S., D.D.S., F.A.C.D., F.I.C.D., F.A.G.D., was the chairman of the restorative department at USC from 1975 to 1979 and the associate dean of clinical education from 1975 to 1976. For more than 25 years, he was chairman of the operative department and for 7 years was chairman of the section on occlusion. In 1967, Dr. Ingraham became one of only six recipients to ever receive the special title of Distinguished Professor conferred by the University of Southern California.

Dr. Ingraham is the author of hundreds of articles and research reports in the field of restorative dentistry. His textbooks, An Atlas of Cast Gold Procedures and Gold Foil and Rubber Dam Procedures are published in four languages and have been used by dental schools in the United States and other countries. He is a recognized authority in the fields of restorative dentistry and occlusion and has lectured and presented Continuing Education courses throughout the world.

Dr. Ingraham was inducted into the USC Dental Hall of Fame in 1976. He holds numerous honorary degrees and is a member of dozens professional and scientific organizations. He has been awarded the Torch of Learning by the Hadassah School of Dental Medicine, Hebrew University of Jerusalem; received an order of Knighthood sanctioned by French President Charles de Gaulle; the OKU key for scholarship; the LaTouche Award for clinical excellence, and from the USC School of Dentistry, two Thomas P. Hinman Awards; the General Alumni Award of Merit, University of Southern California. He also received an Award for Outstanding Contribution to Dental Science from St. Louis Dental Society and is an Honorary Alumnus if the Northwestern University School of Dentistry.

In 1978, he was awarded the Pierre Fauchard Academy Plaque, and in the same year received the Callaham Memorial Award commissioned by the State of Ohio. In 1983, he was named the International Dentist of the Year by the Academy of Dentistry International.

In 1984, the Rex Ingraham Chair in Restorative Dentistry (currently endowed at $750,000) was created commemorating his part in the advancement of the USC School of Dentistry to national prominence. In 1987, the University honored Dr. Ingraham again by conferring the title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus. Also in 1987, the General Alumni Association awarded him the Fred B. Olds Support Group Award for his exceptional contribution to the welfare of the University and the School of Dentistry. In 1982, he was named “Alumnus of the Year”(a graduate of 1934) by his Alma Mater, Mesa College, Grand Junction, Colorado.

In the fall of 1988, the USC School of Dentistry honored Rex’s initiative and fund-raising zeal in re-equipping the second floor operative clinic with new units, lights and chairs. The area is now known as “Rex Ingraham Clinic.”
