Baruch Frenkel
D.M.D.
Assistant Professor
Keck School of Medicine
Department of Orthopaedics
Glucocorticoids (GC) are used in the treatment of autoimmune
and inflammatory diseases, such as asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. One major
side effect of GC therapy is osteoporosis. Dr. Frenkel is investigating the
transcriptional activities of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in osteoblasts.
He is interested in both the trans-activation of promoters containing GR
binding, sites, and the trans-repression of promoters containing cognate
elements for transcription factors capable of protein-protein interactions with
the GR.
