Dr. Kasahara has designed a novel retroviral vector system that consists of a hybrid of adenovirus and retro-elements, such as retroviruses and retro-transposons. In addition, he is developing cell-specific targeted retroviral vectors which recognize and bind to cell-specifc surface receptors. The development of truly tissue specific retroviral vectors and elucidation of mechanisms that constrain their production and delivery are important areas for his future strategies to deliver genes.
