Dr. Zeichner-David has developed several cell lines for cementum formation and is pursuing the role of enamel proteins, especially amelogenin, to serve as a signaling molecule during development which alter the gene expression profile for cementoblasts towards cementum formation and away from expression of osteoblast specific markers. It is hoped that this line of investigation will have a translational impact on periodontal disease in which loss cementum may be re-induced exactly as it occurs during development.
