His research is targeted to investigate the effect of a
unique approach to inhibiting osteoclast resorptive function, and to examine the
mechanism of action of the inhibiting agent. Complementary interests and
expertise have led to a collaboration with Dr. Minkin who has been studying
cellular and molecular biology of the osteoclast. Present investigations provide
support for the role of the vitronectin receptor as one of the integrins
involved in bone attachment and resorption. Further, there is evidence for
integrin-mediated signaling in osteoclasts that have been cultured on ECM
proteins containing Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) sequences.
