Henry M. Sucov
Ph.D.
Associate Professor
Keck School of Medicine
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Institute for Genetic Medicine
His long lerm research is based in genetic strategies
(primarily gene targeting approaches in mice) which have significantly broadened
research in cardiovascular developmental biology by illuminating new pathways
involved in heart development and by allowing the genetic evaluation of pathways
that have previously been implicated in these events. A second area of interest
involved the vitamin A derivative retinoic acid (RA) and related compounds (retinoids)
which are utilized as signaling molecules in a diverse array of developmental
and physiological regulatory processes, including many important in the
developing and mature nervous system. Dr. Maxson, Snead and Sucov collaborate on
a project to produce a Cre-recombinase mouse driven by domains of the Msx
promoter that specify tissue restricted expression of Cre. to neural
crest cells.
