Reseacher Assistant Professor

Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology
Dr. Wuenschell is studying the effect of added nicotine on
the development of whole embryonic mouse lungs grown in a serumless culture
system. Dr. Wuenschell has recently received a five-year grant from the National
Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to continue this work and in particular to
study the nature and location of the nicotine receptors involved in mediating
the developmental effects of nicotine in the lung. Nicotinic acetylcholine
receptors constitue a large and diverse receptor family found mainly on cells of
the central and peripheral nervous systems.
