"Development of an Animal Model for Studying Mandibular Distraction Side Effects and Segmental Movement"

Funding: AO North America Surgery Foundation, American Association of Orthodontist Foundation.
The objective of this project was to develop an animal model for studying how anterior open bite and lateral shift side effects occurred during bilateral mandibular distraction.

The objective of this project was to develop an animal model that would allow spring forces to close an anterior open bite side effect created by bilateral mandibular distraction.

"Clinical Strategies for Closing Large Palatal Fistulae in Cleft Palate Children"

Principal Investigator: Stephen L-K Yen, D.M.D., Ph.D.
The long-term goal of this research is to develop spring-guided distraction of bony segments to close large palatal openings in children with large palatal clefts or acquired palatal deformities secondary to tumor resection.
