Objectives

Upon completion of the case study the learner will be able to attain each of the following objectives.

  1. Define the terms early-onset periodontitis, localized juvenile periodontitis,  rapidly progressive periodontitis, generalized juvenile periodontitis, generalized early-onset periodontitis, and incidental early-onset periodontitis.
  2. Describe the clinical characteristics of LJP.
  3. Recognize alveolar changes on radiographs of defects resulting from LJP.
  4. Discuss the known and suspected etiologic factors for LJP.
  5. Recommend a treatment protocol for the LJP case provided.
  6. Discuss recommendations for use of antibiotics in treatment of LJP.
  7. Select appropriate self care devices for the LJP case provided.
  8. Identify outcome measures to evaluate four to six weeks after initial therapy.
