Dental Hygiene Process of Care
The dental hygiene process of care is the foundation of professional practice and provides a model for organizing and providing dental hygiene care in a variety of settings.
Assessment:
- The systematic collection of health, oral health, behavioral patterns, environment, cultural and other data from the client and/or family in order to identify client problems, needs and their ability to participate in the plan of care.

Planning:
- The dental hygiene care plan is dervied from the dental hygiene diagnosis and includes the participation of the client with the hygienist in setting goals, establishing priorities, identifying interventions (dental hygiene procedures and client actions) and outcome measures.
Implementation:
- The act of caring out the dental hygiene plan designed to meet the assessed needs of the client (includes those health promotion, disease prevention and therapeutic actions of the dental hygienist, client and/or family).
