Mission, Goals and Objectives

The mission of the National Center for Dental Hygiene Research is to foster the development, organization and dissemination of oral health research and to build a strong scientific basis for dental hygiene practice that will improve the health of the public. The three goals of the Center are:

These goals will contribute toward the infrastructure for dental hygiene research, will advance the profession of dental hygiene and will result in improved oral health of the public.

Goal I To provide a think tank for the profession's research initiatives

Objectives

  1. To foster creative exploration and examination of a research agenda based upon issues and trends affecting oral health care

  2. To identify and synthesize significant research issues

  3. To identify strategies for advancing the scientific base for the profession
Goal II To serve as a coordinating body for the collection, synthesis and dissemination of research and clinical practice information

Objectives

  1. Develop a state-of-the-art electronic knowledge and communication system, the DHNet, that will be available over the Internet to provide information regarding research findings and clinical observations.

  2. Disseminate current research findings and clinical practice information to dental hygiene researchers, educators and clinicians.

  3. Promote networking and collaboration among dental hygiene professionals via the DHNet, symposia, publications.
Goal III To enhance oral health research that links researchers, educators and clinicians in collaborative research efforts

Objectives

  1. To advance the knowledge and skills of dental hygienists involved in oral health research

  2. To foster collaboration among researchers, educators and clinicians involved in research.

  3. To facilitate linkages between dental hygiene science and practice through use of electronic communications technology.

  4. To develop and conduct research in a substantive area(s) related to the national dental hygiene research agenda.
