The estimated cost of attendance (COA) is an estimate of a student's
educational expenses for a specific period of enrollment. The amount of
financial aid a student may receive cannot exceed the estimated cost of
attendance. Financial aid provides assistance to the student in
meeting his/her financial obligations directly related (i.e., tuition, fees,
equipment, books and supplies) to his/her matriculation at the University of
Southern California School of Dentistry. Financial aid may also be applied
towards the student's indirect educational costs (i.e., housing, transportation,
and personal/miscellaneous expenses). The USCSD Office of Financial Aid will
determine the allowance for indirect educational costs with the philosophy that
a student may receive financial aid to meet his/her educational costs that
are considered reasonable for a student. Financial
aid programs are not intended to maintain a life style nor is it
intended to fund spouse and/or dependent expenses, mortgages, credit
card debts, or others items not included in the above table. You
must identify outside resources that will assist you in defraying those
expenses not allowed by financial aid.

Financial need is the difference between the cost of attending the USC School
of Dentistry and the amount you and your family, if applicable, can contribute
to your education, as determined by USC. The university uses the Federal
Need Analysis Methodology to determine the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
This methodology takes into consideration the following factors:
- Adjusted Gross Income
- Federal and state taxes
- Untaxed income and benefits
- The number of family members in the household
- The number of family members in post-secondary education
This and additional information is captured on the
FAFSA. Once we have
received all required documents, reviewed those documents, you will receive a
Statement of Financial Aid Eligibility. The Statement is used to
communicate to you your eligibility.
