Information for Faculty

Electronic Reserve

The Wilson Dental Library (WDL) Electronic Reserve system makes course reading materials accessible to the USC Health Sciences Campus community. The materials can be accessed on campus or remotely. Due to copyright restrictions, the materials are only accessible through computers with a valid USC domain address or IP number. Materials included in Electronic Reserve must adhere to copyright laws and fair use provisions of the U.S. Copyright Law.

Materials Accepted for Electronic Reserve

The Wilson Dental Library will make every effort to accommodate faculty requests for Electronic Reserve materials, but may need to restrict inclusion of materials for copyright reasons.

Appropriate material for Electronic Reserve usually includes:

* Instructor materials such as a course outline, lecture notes, problem sets or sample exams
* Limited portions of copyrighted works

Materials usually not accepted for Electronic Reserve include:

* Materials from consumable workbooks which students would normally purchase
* Journal articles which have been included in a coursepack that students are expected to purchase
* Copyrighted materials which do not include a complete citation or clear indication of copyright ownership
Submitting Materials for Electronic or Class Reserves

Choose one of the online forms or obtain a form at the Wilson Dental Library Loan Desk.

If your class materials are in electronic form (Word, etc.), it is preferable that you provide copies of the materials on computer disk. Electronic files may also be submitted via an attachment to an e-mail message or embedded within an e-mail message. Send e-mail to dentalib@hsc.usc.edu.

Paper documents should be clean, clearly legible, and provided in 8 1/2 x 11 inch format. Limit the length of a single item to 15 pages or less, if possible.
Processing Time
During the semester the WDL Reserve Department needs a minimum of one week to process electronic reserve materials. Allow extra time at the beginning of each semester. Materials are processed as received.
