Users should connect to Ovid through the Wilson Dental Library's Ovid at USC web page. In addition to providing a link to the Ovid system, this page serves to inform users of new features and key information about Ovid. Also, in order to connect successfully in future sessions, bookmarks should be set to the Ovid at USC web page. Setting the bookmark beyond this page will skip the verification steps necessary for a valid connection to Ovid.

The Ovid at USC web page offers two methods of initiating an Ovid session (see the illustration below) :

The first "Start Ovid" icon should be used when connecting to Ovid from most USC campus locations or from home when dialing up to a campus computer through a PPP connection. *No authentication is required for users connecting through this method since the Ovid system recognizes the IP address of the computer being used.

The bottom "Start Ovid" icon is for use by individuals accessing Ovid from commercial Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or from one of the specific locations listed. Before being connected to Ovid, users will need to go through a short authentication process to verify the status of their affiliation.
