Troubleshooting in Ovid

PRINTING
Q. I didn't get my printout.
Instead, I got a message "Data Missing."
A. You didn't wait for the complete
document to fully load before pressing the Print button on your
browser.
Q. I got the message "No
result set browser currently open." I have sets showing, but
I can't display them.
A. You are using your browser's
back button when you should be using Ovid's Main Search Page button.
The sets are no longer in existence and must be recreated.
Q. I wanted to print the
citations I selected in full format. All I got was the titles of
all the articles, some I hadn't even selected.
A. You failed to select Print
Preview from the Citation Manager before you printed. Remember in
Ovid you are using your browser to print; you must always display
your retrieval in the proper format on the screen before selecting
"Print."
Q. I can't get the graphics
to scale properly using the Mac in my office. It works all right
on my PC at home.
A. When using a Macintosh computer,
select "Medium" instead of "Full" in the Graphics
Options of the Full-Text Manager located at the bottom of the Full-Text
screen.
SEARCHING
Q. I didn't get the subheading
page even though I mapped to Medical Subject Headings.
A. You selected more than one
MeSH at a time. To see the subheading page you must either select
a single MeSH or explode a single MeSH. If you select two or more
MeSH, the system will assign all subheadings to all MeSH terms.
SYSTEM MESSAGES
Q. I received a message
saying "Database Licensing Exceeded" when I tried to open
a database for searching.
A. The library has licensed
a limited number of access slots for concurrent use of the system.
If a searcher attempts to log in to Ovid at a time when all Norris
Ovid user slots are in use, the system will display this message.
If this occurs, try again a few minutes later. Note: This same situation
also applies to full-text journals.
Q. I received a message saying
"Session Timed Out" and the system dropped my search session.
A. In order to help preserve
the availability of a sufficient number of license slots, sessions
will automatically be dropped after a period of 15 minutes when
there is no session activity. After this time-out maximum is reached,
the user will need to log back in and repeat the search strategy.
Search strategies and results are not saved when the session is
dropped.
If you receive a "Session Timed Out" message, an Ovid
screen will prompt you for a username and password to begin a new
session. Note: This prompt does not apply to users of Ovid at USC.
Instead, simply press the Start button or return to the Ovid at
USC web page.
