Richard Kahn Receives Honor Award

The Pierre Fauchard Academy, Southern California Section, presented the Honor Award to Richard Kahn, D.D.S., the Phillip Maurer Tennis Professor of Clinical Dentistry, at their thirty-second annual award luncheon in Anaheim. In making this award, the Academy cited Kahn’s thirty-seven years of exemplary service to the dental community.

During his tenure at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, Kahn has held numerous leadership positions in restorative dentistry. From 1976-1980 he directed the experimental Family Dentistry Program. Some of the features of that early effort can be found in the current group practice organization of USC’s doctoral dental clinic. Kahn is a Fellow of both the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists; an editorial reviewer for both the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association; and member of numerous professional organizations. Students have recognized Kahn’s abilities as an educator with 17 outstanding faculty awards for teaching excellence, the most recent being awarded by the doctoral dental class of 2002 during commencement ceremonies on May 10.

Other USC individuals recognized by the Academy include clinical assistant professor David Levine, D.D.S., who was inducted as a Fellow, and clinical assistant professor Richard S. Green, D.D.S., who was one of three Teacher of the Year recipients. Rex Yanase, class of 2002, received a 2002 Student Award for his commitment to leadership throughout his academic career.
