BECOMING A PATIENT

All first-time patients, with the exception of emergency care patients, must be evaluated in the Center for Diagnostic Sciences located on the first-floor of the Norris Dental Science Center.  No appointment is necessary.  All patients are seen in the order of arrival, and only fifteen patients are screened each morning or afternoon session.  The evaluation cost is $80.00 and includes an exam, all necessary x-rays, study models and a treatment plan.

Center for Diagnostic Sciences Screening Hours

  Mon Tues Wed Thur Fri
Morning 8:15 to  9:30 Closed 8:15 to 9:30 8:15 to  9:30 Closed
Afternoon 1:00 to 2:30 1:00 to 2:30 1:00 to 2:30 1:00 to 2:30 Closed

If the patient is found to be suitable for care, they will be assigned to a group practice for regular care. Appointments will be arranged with the individual dental student. Because dental care is provided in an educational setting, treatment will take longer than treatment provided in a private practice. Patients are asked to be available one morning, afternoon or evening each week, so that care can progress at a mutually acceptable rate. Each appointment is 3 to 3.5 hours.

Tuesday and Wednesday evening clinics provide treatment to those with limited availability during the day.

For those interested in shorter appointments (but at a higher cost), we recommend dental care provided in our faculty practice at the USC Oral Health Center 213-740-2012.

Our academic calendar influences the dental clinic staffing, limited dental services are available during weeks of examinations and vacations. In general this occurs one week in April, one week in June, the last three weeks in August and the last two weeks in December. For additional information, please call (213) 740-2800.
