RAISING AWARENESS
The School of Dentistry will be conducting a series of events during the month of April all related to the research, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of oral cancer. The events are being held in conjunction with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week—a nationwide effort taking place from April 19-25.
The division of diagnostic sciences will conduct free oral cancer screenings in the School of Dentistry’s dental hygiene clinic on Friday, April 23. The event will be co-sponsored by the Yul Brynner Head and Neck Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports oral cancer research, education and treatment. Faculty, staff and student volunteers are needed to assist. Interested parties may sign-up outside DEN 4202.
Every year, over 7,000 people succumb to oral and oropharyngeal cancer and over 28,000 new cases are diagnosed . Half of patients diagnosed with oral cancer do not survive beyond five years. April oral cancer awareness events:
