The Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved recently published an article recognizing the dental-education legacy of the family of Clifton Dummett, distinguished professor emeritus of dentistry at USC. 

Written by Savannah, Ga. dentist J.W. Jamerson, “Heroes and Great Ideas: A Sterling Legacy” highlights the dentistry careers of Clifton Dummett; his father, Alexander Adolphus Dummett; and Clifton Dummett’s son, Clifton Dummett, Jr., who died in 2006 after a battle with brain cancer.

Table Clinic Awards

Two School of Dentistry students won awards for their table clinics during the California Dental Association meeting, May 1-4 in Anaheim.

Rita Chuang, DDS 2009, won first place in the Clinical category for her table clinic, “Novel Treatment Modality for Cleft Lip and Palate Patients.” Chuang won second place in this category last year.  

George Abichaker, DDS 2009, won third place in the Basic Science category for his clinic, “Cytomegalovirus Inhibition of Tooth Development.” Abichaker was a first place winner in this category last year.

DH Seniors Ace National Boards

The dental hygiene class of 2008 had a 100 percent pass rate on the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination, said Diane Melrose, chair of the Dental Hygiene Program.

“Congratulations to each one of them for all of their hard work!” Melrose said.
