| The General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) is an inpatient and outpatient research support service funded by the NIH 's National Center for Research Resources (NCRR). The GCRC provides clinical research infrastructure for USC investigators with peer-reviewed protocols to study normal human function, as well as the mechanisms treatment and prevention of human disease. The Center comprises a 14-bed inpatient service, an outpatient facility, clinical and molecular medicine biology core laboratories, research kitchen, biostatistical services and computer laboratory facilities, together occupying Ward 6800 of the Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center.
A Scientific Advisory Committee, appointed by the Principal Investigator, sets priorities and policies for the Center, and reviews and decides on protocols submitted for GCRC use. Protocols are reviewed for scientific merit and for need of GCRC services. Prior approval by the LAC+USC Medical Center Institutional Review Board (IRB) is prerequisite to the review and initiation of studies on the GCRC. The GCRC may host investigators funded by NIH, by other federal, state and local agencies as well as by the private sector. The Center can support a limited number of unfunded preliminary studies that have a high likelihood of leading to peer-reviewed funding. GCRC staff is available to assist investigators in the design of studies for grant submission. For investigator-initiated, peer-reviewed studies carried out on the GCRC. the following resources are available at no cost to the investigator: |
