Helmet How-To

According to Alan Nager, M.D., head of the division of emergency and transport medicine at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and assistant professor of pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, wearing a helmet is essential to protect the heads of children on wheeled devices, such as bikes and skateboards. He says the fit of a helmet is absolutely critical. In ensure proper fit, the front of the helmet should sit right above the eyebrow and the helmet should be snug. If a finger can fit between the helmet and the head, the helmet is too loose. Adhesive helmet pads can be placed inside to tighten the fit.
