The preliminary plans for the 190,000 square-foot Harlyne J. Norris Research Tower revealed five floors for basic research, two floors for preventive medicine, a vivarium, an atrium with attached lobby, a conference center and a landscaped courtyard. The conference center will house a 200-seat auditorium to be used for medical and scientific meetings and community educational seminars. Additionally, four smaller adjacent meeting rooms will accommodate groups of 25-30 people.

The development goals to raise $100 million towards the building and the recruitment of researchers are ongoing. USC/Norris faculty and staff are grateful to the donors who have helped make the Harlyne J. Norris Research Tower a reality and whose names will be prominently displayed on the building and in the laboratories and research centers.

Appreciation is extended to the Norris Foundation, Joseph and Catherine Aresty, Dr. David Cofrin, the Helen Finke Estate, the Sven Idsten Trust, Ron Corradini, Allene L. Nungesser, Kendall E. Nungesser, Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inc., Mary Slechta Trust, Elton and Eva Barrett, the supporters of the 2001 Norman Topping Dinner, the Paul N. Sommer Estate, Helen B. East, Mrs. Lam Yau Jong, the Jack Haley Fund, Louise Ploner, the Rollie Kelley Family Foundation, Jim and Dorothy Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Ho, Harry and Phoebe Balch, and Gary Nunnelly for their generosity and support.

There are still many naming opportunities available for the new Research Tower including departments, health centers, research floors, professorships and cancer researchers. By supporting the vital research taking place, donors will be playing an important role in helping find a cure for this devastating disease. n
