Workshop Scope

This workshop provides an overview on human genetic variations with emphasis on single nucleotide polymorphisms, as well as a survey on the main online databases in this field. The hands-on search examples are designed to help users to search genetic variation data from those public databases.

Major Topics Covered

  • Human genetic variation and single nucleotide polymorphisms overview
  • NCBI genetic variation resources: dbSNP and OMIM.
  • The HapMap Project overview and search examples
  • The Perlegen genetic variation database overview
  • The SeattleSNPs Genome Variation Server overview and search example
  • Ensembl SNPs overview

Prerequisite
