University of Southern California

Essential Databases and Software Tools for PCR Primers and OLIGOS Design

General Information

This workshop is usually offered at least twice during each academic semester. Unless otherwise noted, it is held in the 20-seat Computer Lab at the 2nd floor in NML.

Workshop Scope

This workshop focuses on quality open-access online databases and software that facilitate designing PCR primers/oligos for various molecular biology applications. It introduces over 25 such resources along with brief overview on their key functions, features, strengths, and limitations.

Major Topics Covered:

  • General guidelines for PCR primers design
  • General purpose PCR primer design
  • PCR primers for SNPs or genotyping
  • Real time PCR primers design
  • Multiplex PCR primers design
  • Degenerate PCR primers design
  • Methylation PCR primers design
  • Microarray probes design
  • Site-directed mutagenesis PCR primers design
  • PCR primer quality analysis

Workshop Evaluation

Please take this short and annonymous evaluation after completing the workshop. Your input will help us improve this workshop.
