Unix Software

The UNIX systems at USC contain a wide range of software packages to meet a variety of computing needs. Because the software packages change frequently, the following list is not a complete list of all available software nor is all software available on every UNIX time-sharing host. It is however a list of major packages available on most ITS time-sharing systems along with information about what type of support you should expect from the ITS Customer Support Center for each package.

In the table below:

• Full Support implies that the Customer Support Center will be able to assist you in invoking the software, handing abnormal operation, and basic usage.
• Minimal Support implies that the Customer Support Center will be able to help you start the program and address any system level problems with the software or its installation.

If you are looking for a particular package and do not see it listed here your should look in the directory /usr/usc on the time-sharing hosts. The majority of software is located there. You should also check the directory /usr/scf on student servers or the directory /usr/rcf on the research servers.
