Topic: Making a Blackboard Course Available to Students

Please note that the instructions for instructors and teaching assistants are different.

Instructions for USC Instructors

1. Locate the course you want to make available on your My Courses Plus list (in the far right column on your Home tab) and then click the tool icon ()to the left of the course ID.
   
   
   
2. Click the 'Make Course Available' button' ()

Instructions for USC Teaching Assistants

1. Under My Courses Plus on the Home tab, click the name of the "NOT AVAILABLE" course that you want your students to be able to access.
2. Under Course Management, click Customization.
3. Click Properties.
4. Click Yes next to Make Course Available.
5. Click Submit.

About Course Availability

ITS automatically creates a Blackboard course for every course that is listed in the Schedule of Classes. However, to ensure that Blackboard courses and their contents are not available to students until instructors are ready to make those courses available, all Blackboard courses are automatically visible to instructors and teaching assistants but hidden from students.

If the name of your course is followed by the words "NOT AVAILABLE", that course exists on Blackboard but is currently hidden from the students. To access a "NOT AVAILABLE" Blackboard course without making it available to the students, ignore the words "NOT AVAILABLE" and click the course's course ID.

ITS also disables student access to completed Blackboard courses approximately eight weeks after the last day of classes, as listed on USC's academic calendar [academics.usc.edu/calendar]. Student access to summer semester courses will end on October 1. Student access to fall semester courses will be disabled on February 1. Student access to spring semester courses will be disabled on July 1.

If students would like to see their final course grades for previous semesters, they can view their official grade reports on OASIS [www.usc.edu/oasis] or MyUSC [my.usc.edu]. Students who would like to access course materials or individual grades on assignments from a previous semester's Blackboard course will need to contact that course's instructor.
