Setting Entourage to Filter Messages Tagged as Spam

This document provides instructions for setting the Entourage Email program to automatically filter messages tagged as spam by Brightmail AntiSpam software. You have the option of sending tagged messages to a specific folder for review or of automatically deleting messages tagged as spam.

Entourage Client Configuration

To filter mail tagged by Brightmail as spam, perform the following steps:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Rules.
  2. If you check your mail using the POP protocol, click the Mail (POP) tab. If you use the IMAP protocol, click the Mail (IMAP) tab.
  3. Click the New button. The Edit Rule window will appear.
  4. In the Rule name field, enter a name for the filter (e.g. Brightmail or Spam).

  5. In the If section, click the Execute menu and select if any criteria are met.
  6. From the first menu, select Subject.
  7. Select Starts with from the following menu.
  8. In the following text field, enter << SPAM? >>.
  9. If you would like to move the tagged messages to a particular folder, select Move message in the Then section. From the following menu, select Choose folder and select the appropriate folder (e.g. Trash, JunkMail, or Spam).
  10. If you would like to delete tagged messages, select Delete message in the Then section.
  11. Verify that the Enabled option is checked.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Close the Rules window.

Getting Help

The ITS Customer Support Center can assist you with setting up filters for your mail. However, consultants will not extensively troubleshoot filter rules, nor can they assist users who need finer rules than the common ones.
