Setting Outlook 2003 to Filter Messages Tagged as Spam

This document provides instructions for setting Outlook 2003 to automatically filter messages tagged as spam by Brightmail AntiSpam software. You have the option of sending tagged messages to a specific folder for review or of automatically deleting messages tagged as spam..

Outlook 2003 Client Configuration

To filter mail tagged by Brightmail as spam, perform the following steps:

  1. Launch Outlook 2003 and make sure the Inbox is active. You can do this by clicking the Inbox icon.
  2. From the menu bar, select Tools, and then Rules and Alerts.
  3. Click the New Rule button.

  5. Verify that Start creating a rule from a template is selected.
  6. If you would like to move the message to another folder, select the option Move messages with specific words in the subject to a folder. Outlk2003ruleswizard1.jpg
  7. Select the check box with specific words in the subject.

  9. If you would like to move the message to another folder, select that option.

  11. In the Rule description section, click the specified link, select the appropriate folder, and click OK .
  12. If you would like to delete the message, select the option Delete a conversation .
  13. Click Finish.
  14. Click OK.
Getting Help

The ITS Customer Support Center can assist you with setting up filters for your mail. However, consultants will not extensively troubleshoot filter rules, nor can they assist users who need finer rules than the common ones.
