ITS P2P Awareness Program

Through the P2P awareness program, users of USC's residential and wireless networks will receive an automatic email when ITS detects peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing activity on equipment registered to them.

Although there are many legitimate uses of P2P technology, P2P file sharing is often associated with illegal downloading or uploading of copyrighted content.

The ITS P2P awareness program is educational; it is designed to improve understanding of how P2P programs operate. Users on affected networks will receive notification for any P2P activity on equipment registered to them.

Users who understand the technology and are confident that they are using the technology only for legal purposes may opt out.
