Mathematica is a comprehensive technical-computing environment that allows the user to easily work with numerical, symboic and graphical information and data. Mathematica is currently available on the UNIX, Mac OS and Windows platforms.
Mathematica is particularly useful when working with symbolic notations and for the manipulation of algebraic expressions. Additionally, Mathematica includes significant plotting and graphical visualization tools along with a built-in scripting language.
To use Mathematica on UNIX first source the Mathematica setup file using the command:
source /usr/usc/math/default/setup.csh
Then type the command math to start Mathematica in text
mode or type the command mathematica to start Mathematica
with the graphical notebook interface.
To use Mathematica on a Mac OS or Windows computer double-click on the appropriate icon. This will open the Mathematica notebook.
