Using BBEdit

BBEdit is an application for use on a Macintosh computer. It
allows you to create and edit text and HTML files.
Creating Files
To create a new file in BBEdit:
Go to the menu, and
move the mouse cursor over the submenu.

If you would like to create a new blank text file,
select , and a
document will open in a new window.
If you would like to create a text file with items
from the clipboard automatically pasted in, select .
If you would like to create an HTML document with
basic tags already filled in, select and the New HTML Document window will open
to allow you to enter information about the HTML document
you are creating.
Opening Existing Files
To open a file:
Go to the menu, and
select . The Open: BBEdit dialog box will
open.

From the dialog box, select where the file
is located under the From:
field.
Select the document you wish to open, and click on
the Open button.
Opening a File from an FTP Server
BBEdit allows you to open files from an FTP server. To
do this:
Go to the menu and
select .

In the dialog box that appears, enter the name of
the server you want to access in the Server: field.
Enter your user name for the FTP server in the
User Name: field and enter
your password in the Password: field.
Note: It is strongly recommended that you
do not select the Remember
Password option. Selecting that option would
allow anyone with access to your computer to access your
FTP account.
Select the file you wish to open, and click on the
Open button.
Saving Files
To save a file you have created:
Go to the menu, and
select .

Enter the name you wish to give your file in the
Save As field.
Under the Where
field, select where you would like to save the
file.
If you would like to change the file options, click on
the Options... button to
select the options. For more information on file options,
refer to the BBEdit help document by
selecting from the
menu.
Click on the Save
button to save the file.
Saving Files to an FTP server
To save a file to an FTP server:
Go to the menu and
select either or .
In the dialog box that appears, enter the name of
the server you want to access in the Server: field.
Enter your user name for the FTP server in the
User Name: field and enter
your password in the Password: field.
Note: It is strongly recommended that you
do not select the Remember
Password option. Selecting that option would
allow anyone with access to your computer to access your
FTP account.
Select the directory you wish to save to, and click on the
Save button.

BBEdit has help guides available to assist you with
utilizing the program. To access the help guides, select
from the
menu.
