Setting Up Outlook Express for the USC Network

This document explains how to set up Outlook Express to get and send mail from your account on email.usc.edu.

Setting Up a New Account

If you are using Outlook Express for the first time, the Internet Connection wizard will automatically begin. If this is the case, skip the first two steps listed below.

Configuring Outlook Express for Transport Layer Security (TLS)

The following steps describe how to configure Outlook Express to use a Transport Layer Security (TLS) connection when sending email. Aside from establishing a secure connection to the email system, a TLS connection is required to send email over USC's wireless network or when using USC's outgoing mail server from a non-USC connection.

  1. Go to the Tools menu and click Accounts.
  2. On the Accounts screen, choose your USC email account and then click Properties.
  3. On the Properties screen, click the Servers tab.
