Using USC Email Lookup with Thunderbird

This document contains directions on how to configure Thunderbird to use USC's LDAP email lookup server, gds.usc.edu.

Setting Up a New Directory Service

  1. From the Tools menu, select Options.
  2. Click Composition and click Addressing. Select Directory Server.
  3. Click Edit Directories and in the new windows click Add.
  4. For Name: enter USC Directory Service.
  5. For Hostname:, enter gds.usc.edu.
  6. For Base DN: enter dc=usc,dc=edu.
  7. For Port number: enter 389 directory_server_properties
  8. Click Ok to add the new server entry and click Ok once again to return to the Options window.
  9. Now you can select USC Directory Server from the Directory Server drop-down menu.
  10. Once you have selected USC Directory Server from the Directory Server drop-down menu, click Ok to finish.
