Using USC Email Lookup with Thunderbird (Mac)

This document contains directions on how to configure Thunderbird for Mac to use USC's LDAP email lookup server, gds.usc.edu.

Setting Up a New Directory Service

  1. From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.
  2. Select Composition & Addressing from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. In the Addressing section of the Account Settings window, select Use a different LDAP server.
  4. Click Edit Directories....
  5. On the Select an LDAP Directory Server: screen, click Add.
  6. On the General tab:
    1. For Name: enter USC Directory Service.
    2. For Hostname:, enter gds.usc.edu.
    3. For Base DN: enter dc=usc,dc=edu.
    4. For Port number: enter 389 directory_server_properties
    5. Click Ok to add the new server entry and click Ok once again to return to the Options window.
    6. Now you can select USC Directory Server from the Directory Server drop-down menu.
    7. Once you have selected USC Directory Server from the Directory Server drop-down menu, click Ok to finish.
