CENIC International Internet eXchange (CIIX) formerly known as the Los Angeles Access Point (LAAP)
NOTE: The LAAP exchange which has been administered by the University of Southern California (USC) is currently in transition to administration by the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC)'s CIIX exchange. Until the transition has been completed, you may still contact the USC representatives on this site.
The LAAP provides physical interconnections at geographically dispersed locations in the Los Angeles area for its participants to exchange Internet traffic through co-operative bi-lateral peering agreements.
ISPs, Content Providers, Cable Networks, Universities, Not-for-Profits, etc. are all welcome to join the LAAP providing they meet some criteria. These criteria are clearly laid out in the LAAP Services Agreement Service Policies and Procedures, to which participants must agree and adhere. Organizations who think they may meet LAAP participation criteria and are interested in participating are encouraged to read these pages and to contact the LAAP.
Co-founded in 1996 with Metropolitan Fiber Systems’ MAE-LA, the Los Angeles Access Point (LAAP) is a project of the Information Sciences Division of the University of Southern California with locations in Marina del Rey, the University Park Campus, One Wilshire and 818 W. 7th Street in downtown Los Angeles. There are plans to add additional sites as the University’s fiber footprint extends beyond the Los Angeles downtown area. Interconnected to the LAAP are Telehouse’s LAIIX, located in 626 Wilshire Blvd., and Switch and Data’s PAIX-LA, located in One Wilshire and 1200 W 7th Street.
