VPN on the Apple iPhone/iPod Touch

iPhones/iPod Touches that are running iPhone 2.0 and later software come with a built-in VPN client. Although the ITS Customer Support Center does not currently provide support for iPhone/iPod Touch; the following configuration information is provided as a courtesy to users who wish to use VPN on their iPhone/iPod Touch to make a secure connection to the USC Network.

Configuring the iPhone/iPod Touch VPN Client for use on the USC Network

From your iPhone/iPod Touch's home screen:

  1. Select Settings.

  3. From the Settings tab, select General.

  5. From the General tab, select Network.

  7. From the Network tab, select VPN.
  8. From the VPN tab, select Add VPN Configuration.

  10. From the Add VPN Configuration tab, select the IPSec tab.
  11. Enter the following information in the IPSec tab:

    • In the Description field, enter a name such as USC or USC VPN
    • In the Server field, enter: sslvpn.usc.edu
    • In the Account field, enter your USC username.
    • For the Password field, leave that section blank, you will be prompted for you USC password when you connect.
    • For the Use Certificate field, make sure that is toggled to off.
    • In the Group Name field, enter: Wireless
    • In the Secret field, enter: GoTrojan

    Note: "GoTrojan" must have a capital "G" and a capital "T".

  12. Click Save.

Connecting to VPN on an iPhone/iPod Touch

From the iPhone/iPod Touch home screen:

  1. Go to Settings.

  3. On the Settings tab, go to the VPN tab and click ON.

  5. In the VPN Connection screen, enter your USC username and password and then click Ok
