Services

Our Philosophy
Multimedia Services supports the equipment available to faculty in its designated classrooms and auditoria. Although the equipment and services provided to each room can vary due to the architectural structure of particular buildings and other considerations, the priority of Multimedia Services is to encourage the integration of multimedia into the classroom experience across the curriculum. Media-Basic, Media-plus, and lectern-based rooms contain different, fixed-asset AV equipment from what is found in cart-supported rooms, where the AV equipment is distributed through one of five multimedia hub locations.

What is included in the Media-Plus classroom?
The Media-Plus room configuration includes a sound amplification and speaker system, LCD projector, a fold-down table, Help Phone, DVD/VHS playback unit, and a remotely monitored AV management package that boasts 24/7 AV equipment security monitoring, linked directly to DPS. However, it does not include a computer. The Plus classroom with the AV Wall Box has been well received by faculty. If you haven't yet experienced the Plus classroom, you can find the location nearest you on the AV Equipment by Building and Room page.

Please note that most general-use multimedia classrooms contain video surveillance cameras for your protection.

Note: Laptop in above AV Wallbox picture is shown to demonstrate a possible use for the fold-down table. The laptop is NOT included in the equipment list for a Media-Plus room. For a suggested list of items to bring along with your laptop or other source equipment, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions on our FAQ Page.

Our Core Services
Multimedia Services provides the following core services at no charge to faculty members or authorized guest instructors who teach classes in properly reserved multimedia classrooms and auditoria. Multimedia Services also supports events that are sponsored by academic departments.

  • Access to the multimedia equipment in the requested auditorium or classroom
  • Confirmation of correct equipment setup and proper working condition of requested equipment prior to start of class
  • Response within 10 minutes to in-classroom service requests (operational problems with our equipment) received from instructors and faculty members for classes that are in progress
  • Training on the use of the AMX (Brand) Touch Panel as well as operational use of multimedia equipment within the auditoria by means of scheduled, stand-up training sessions as well as online tutorials.

Terminology Explained
In most cases, both the room and the AV equipment will need to be reserved to activate your desired room's supported AV services. Exceptions to this are the Media-Basic and Media-Plus rooms where instructors require audio, video, and network connection jacks to be used with their own source equipment (DVD/VHS player, laptop, etc.) In all cases, the room must be reserved in advance by an Academic Scheduling Coordinator. If this is a new process for you, please consult with your department specific Academic Scheduling Coordinator for details pertaining to reserving a classroom. To reserve AV equipment for supported rooms, please see the Making a Reservation links on the right side of this web page.

Regardless of the room type, our mission is the same: to provide high-quality AV equipment to support the research and teaching needs of the USC community. To that end, please let us know how we are doing to provide you and your students with the kind of equipment to enable you to achieve your teaching and educational goals. Please find the Feedback link below and take a moment to share your impression of our services.
