Office 365 Rollout Plan
Microsoft Office 365 is a modern collaboration platform that provides a full-featured email system with web access, integrated calendaring, a campus contacts directory, support for mobile device access, and 25 gigabytes of storage per account.
This cloud-based system will provide USC employees with the tools they need to communicate and collaborate now and in the future. Upcoming enhancements will include the Microsoft Lync web and video conferencing platform, which will allow for high-definition video conferencing, screen sharing, and instant messaging; SharePoint Online, a document management system that will enable individuals and departments to easily share documents in a secure environment; and SkyDrive, an integrated, cloud-based service for document storage.
In January 2013, ITS began rolling out Exchange Online, the Office 365 product that supports email, integrated calendar, and contacts, for use by USC faculty and staff. As of August 2013, Phase 1 of this rollout is approximately 15% complete. ITS expects to move all 25,000 faculty and staff email accounts to Exchange Online by June 30, 2014.
Additional Office 365 features, including Lync Online, SharePoint Online, and SkyDrive will become available over the next 12 to 36 months. Through various pilot programs, ITS is currently evaluating these tools in order to ensure effective implementation for the larger faculty and staff community.
