Technology Connection Charge (TCC)
The Technology Connection Charge is designed to guarantee key services for all university units, while providing a telephone and computing infrastructure that meets the technological needs of USC faculty, students, and staff.
The TCC for fiscal year 2013 is $1,156 for each of the unit's total number of on-campus benefits-eligible employees. For each of the unit’s off-campus employees the TCC rate is $203. Departments are charged $385 for each on-campus teaching or research assistant. And for each off campus teaching or research assistant the department is charged $68. Units are not charged for non-benefits-eligible employees (part-time faculty at less than 50% time) and casual student workers.
The TCC rate of $1,156 per year per benefits-eligible employee includes basic telephone and data network services.
Telephone Services:
- Dial Tone
- Voicemail
- 5-Digit Dialing (Extension Dialing)
- Local and Long-Distance Calls within the U.S.
The TCC includes telephone service and troubleshooting to the phone jack and maintenance of inside wiring. Units may choose to have ITS maintain their digital telephone sets. They may also choose whether to purchase new digital telephone sets from ITS or from a third-party vendor.
Data Network:
- Wired
- Wireless
The TCC includes data network maintenance up to the building. Most units will elect to have ITS provide maintenance and support for their internal (intra-building) network. Units that select ITS support for their internal network will be charged an additional 12% of their total TCC. Internal network support applies only to the network; ITS does not provide desktop computer support. Units that decide to provide their own internal network maintenance and support will not pay the 12% surcharge.
The TCC does not include: international calling, cellular telephones, pagers, additional network support (such as installation or relocation of telephone or network connections, wiring upgrades--except as part of the university-wide network upgrade), and other specialized services. Each of these services will be charged to the unit based on the actual cost of the service.
