Telephone Set Maintenance

Beginning July 1, 2006, departments will be billed a Technology Connection Charge (TCC) that provides basic telephone line services, including maintenance and troubleshooting of the dial tone to the jack. The TCC does not include telephone set repair or replacement.

Departments, units, and individuals can choose to maintain their own telephone set or to have ITS provide telephone support.

To opt into the ITS-maintained Telephone Set Maintenance plan, fill out the Telephone Set Maintenance form and return it to the Communication Services Group in Jef 141, MC 0251, or fax it to 213-740-7254.

Listed below are the types of telephone support, their cost per year, and the services provided.

ITS-maintained Telephone Support

Departments and units opting to retain ITS to maintain their multi-button digital telephone sets will be billed an annual fee per digital telephone set as outlined below. Analog sets are not included or supported under this option. The annual fee includes necessary repair or replacement of the multi-button telephone set. Support services are available between 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; weekends and holidays are excluded.

Telephone Set Annual Fee
20-button $48.00 per Digital Telephone Set
50-button $60.00 per Digital Telephone Set

Assumptions under this option include:

  • Feature changes, moves, and add-ons requested by the customer will be charged at the current posted rates;
  • Analog telephone sets are excluded from this agreement.

After July 1, 2006, departments may change their telephone support option by giving ITS six month's notice. Departments that decide to switch to Department-maintained Telephone Support will be responsible for the costs associated with maintaining and supporting their own telephone services.

Department-maintained Telephone Support

Departments that choose to maintain their own telephone sets are responsible for ensuring that the telephone sets are compatible with the current university telephone service and adhering to ITS's . University telephone service is delivered in two forms: analog and digital. Not all digital phones are compatible with USC's telephone service. Digital telephone sets are unique to each telephone vendor service and thus require power, labeling, programming, and matching feature sets to the telephone switch.

Assumptions under this option include:

  • Feature changes, moves, and add-ons requested by the customer will be charged at the current posted rates;
  • Departments assume responsibility for all analog and digital telephone set repair and replacement as well as for ensuring that telephone sets are compatible with the university telephone service;
  • Departments may request that ITS repair their phone sets. ITS phone repairs will be billed at the posted hourly rates for service as well as materials costs associated with repairing the telephone set.
  • If an ITS technician is dispatched on a customer-initiated telephone line troubleshooting call and it is determined that the telephone set is the problem, the department may be charged $75 per hour, with a two-hour minimum charge.

After July 1, 2006, departments may change their telephone support option by giving ITS six month's notice. Departments that decide to return to ITS-maintained Telephone Support may incur costs associated with meeting ITS's telephone set requirements.
