Server Co-location with Server Support
USC schools, departments and other units are welcome to co-locate their SUN Solaris, Windows and Macintosh servers in the ITS data center and use ITS to provide server support and management for these servers. At this time ITS offers server management services for SUN Solaris, Windows and Macintosh servers.
This service provides a customer's servers with hardware support, 24 X 7 system monitoring, a suite of basic software products, server backup, support of operating system updates, patches, and bug fixes, network connectivity and co-location in the ITS data center. ITS can further customize this service to meet specific customer needs.

SUN Solaris Server with Support - Service Description
- ITS provides installation and support of the SUN Solaris operating system and any updates, patches and bug fixes.
- ITS provides 24 x 7 system monitoring.
- ITS can provide software and support for a suite of software products. Customers pay the purchase and ongoing software maintenance fees for those applications it chooses to install. A list of these software applications can be found at: http://www.usc.edu/its/pricing/software_fees/solaris.html.
- Customers may elect to purchase and have ITS install and support additional 3rd party software (such as database software or other software applications)
- Customers purchase the software and annual maintenance for such software. They also pay for the ITS systems administration labor required to install, upgrade and support the software. ITS would be happy to provide an estimate of such costs based on the specific software support desired.
- Servers must be ITS approved Tier 1 Server class systems.
- Servers must be covered by a hardware maintenance contract.
- If a server is supported and maintained by ITS, the charge will be 65% of the prevailing Sun Silver Spectrum Support Contract price.
- Customers may choose to use a 3rd party vendor for hardware support if desired.
- Customers must purchase disk backup for their servers from ITS.
- Backup of databases may be an extra cost. Such costs will be set on a case by case basis.
- Customers must purchase rack space for their servers from ITS.

Windows / Mac Server Co-location with Support - Service Description
- ITS provides support of operating system updates, patches and bug fixes.
- Antivirus Protection Software (Symantec Client Security) and standard configured operating systems (MS Windows 2000 or Netware 5.x or Mac OS 10)
- ITS provides 24 x 7 system monitoring.
- Customers may elect to purchase and have ITS install and support additional 3rd party software (such as database software or other software applications)
- Customers purchase the software and annual maintenance for such software. They also pay for the ITS systems administration labor required to install, upgrade and support the software. ITS would be happy to provide an estimate of such costs based on the specific software support desired.
- Servers must be ITS approved Tier 1 Server class systems.
- ITS can provide assistance in obtaining a server from a vendor at the customer's request. The initial hours required for analysis, building the server environment, problem resolution and set up will be quoted and invoiced to the customer at the current ITS systems administrator labor rate.
- Customers must have server hardware under warranty or have a hardware support contract with a 3rd party
- Customers must purchase disk backup for their servers from ITS.
- Windows and Mac server backup requires purchasing an annual license for Veritas software for each server.
- Backup of databases may be an extra cost. Such costs will be set on a case by case basis.
- Customers must purchase rack space for their servers from ITS.

How to Request Server Co-location with Support
To initiate a request for server co-location with support please:
- Review the service level agreement example below which contains typical terms and conditions specific to this service.
- All customers who wish to purchase co-location services from ITS must sign a Service Level Agreement(SLA). This agreement contains the detailed terms and conditions that apply to our co-location service.

- Please complete the Server Co-location Request Form
After receiving your request ITS will contact you within two business days to schedule a time to review your requirements. Once this review is completed ITS will create a formal server support agreement, customized to your exact needs. This agreement must be signed by the appropriate level of management in ITS and your organization.

If you would like to add equipment to your rack, please complete the Colo Property-Addition Form. If you would like to remove equipment, please complete the Colo Property-Removal Form.
