Unix Server/Workstation Support

ITS provides full support services for Unix workstations.

Workstation/Server Installation

Includes installation of system software and hardware. Systems requiring additional hardware installation or system configuration may cost more. Diskless systems are not installed or supported.

Systems Maintenance Contract

Includes customized software support and access to all common resources maintained by ITS, installation and maintenance (including upgrade and replacement when necessary). Required for connection to USCnet and purchase of software site-licenses and file backup.

File Backup

Regular backup of workstation or server hard disks over USCnet. Minimum 1 GB. Based on 1GB segments of all partitioned file space. Available only with Systems Maintenance Contract at a rate of $30/GB/year.

Annual Hardware Maintenance Contract

ITS can provide hardware support contracts for many models of Sun Microsystems workstations and servers. Prices are based upon the particular model of workstation or server. Certain systems are not eligible for an ITS hardware support contract. Please contact Tina Walsh at 740-2957 or its-software@usc.edu for specific details.

Hardware maintenance contracts are required for servers and disk arrays housed in the ITS data center. Such contracts can either be from ITS or a third-party vendor. For Sun Microsystems workstations and servers located outside of the ITS data center, an accompanying software support contract is optional. (See "Non-Contract Repairs," below.)

Non-Contract Repairs

Charges for repair of servers and other equipment not under maintenance contract are based on time and materials with a 2 hour minimum.
