Network Printing- Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6)
The instructions below will help you set up your computer to print to a networked printer, such as a departmental printer or shared printer in a residence hall.
What You Will Need:
- A Macintosh running Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
- A printer that has an IP address on the USC Network.
- The IP address of the printer. Most printers will allow you print a test page with this information. If you need help printing a test page, please refer to your printer's instruction manual.
- The printer driver for the printer you are trying to install. Note: Many printer drivers come pre-installed with your operating system. If you do not find a driver for your printer's make and model already installed on your computer, you may need to locate the driver from the CD-ROM or DVD that came with the printer. If you do not have the disk, you may be able to obtain the driver from the manufacturer's web site.
Click Apple menu and select System Preferences.
Double-click Print & Fax Preferences. The Printer List window will appear.
Select + to add a printer. The Printer Selection dialog box will appear.
Select the IP button at the top.
Select Line Printer Daemon (LPD) for protocol.
In the Address field, input the USC hostname or IP address of the printer you wish to print to.
Leave the Queue field blank, unless you are printing to a specified printer queue. If you are using a specified printer queue, input the queue name in the designated field.
Name and Location fields are optional and can be left blank.
Click Add.
Note: Many departmental printers are labeled with their IP address. If the printer you are using is not labeled, please contact your local IT support group for help finding this information.
Configuring Your Computer for Network Printing
Your computer is now configured to print to your network printer.
Please note that you cannot configure versions of the same printer using the same IP address or host.
