Norton AntiVirus 10.0 (Mac OS X)

Norton AntiVirus is designed to detect, remove, and prevent the spread of Mac OS viruses. Computer users running Mac OS X can download Norton AntiVirus from the USC software download page.

System Requirements
  • G3 Processor and above, running Mac OS X (10.3 or later)
  • 128 MB of RAM
  • 40 MB of available hard disk space
Installation Instructions
  1. Download the Norton AntiVirus 10.0 Client installation file, then double-click NAV10_OSX.dmg.
  2. The file will mount a disk image of Norton AntiVirus 10 for OS X on the desktop, and open up a folder. In the folder, double-click the icon Install for OS X 10.3-10.4.
  3. In the Installer, click Continue.
  4. In the Read Me window, click Continue.
  5. In the License window, click Agree.
  6. Click Continue and then click Install.
  7. Click Logout and restart your computer to complete the installation.

After restarting, you will need to update your virus definitions to protect yourself against current viruses.

Updating Virus Definitions
  1. From the Applications folder, run Norton AntiVirus.
  2. From the Utilities menu, select LiveUpdate. The LiveUpdate window displays.

  4. Click Update Everything Now. This will install all updates.
  5. Once updates are installed, the LiveUpdate Summary window will open. Click OK.
  6. Restart your computer.

Updating Virus Definitions Manually

You can use LiveUpdate to download the latest virus definitions, or you can follow the steps below to download the latest virus definitions from Norton's download virus definitions page.

  1. From the download virus definitions page, select Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh, and click Download Updates.
  2. Click the file that contains the update for the version of Norton AntiVirus that you are running. The file extension will be .dmg.
  3. Save the file.
  4. Double-click the downloaded file to mount the disk image. Double-click the .pkg file inside the disk image to install the virus definition.
  5. The Install Norton AntiVirus Definitions window will appear. Click Continue.
  6. The Read Me window will appear. Click Continue.
  7. In the License window, click Agree.
  8. Click Continue and then Upgrade to install the virus definitions.
  9. You will be notified when the update is completed. Click Close.
How to Create a Scheduled Scan
  1. Run Norton AntiVirus.
  2. Click the Utilities menu, and select Symantec Scheduler.

  4. In the Symantec Scheduler window, click New.
  5. You will be prompted to select a product to Schedule. Select AntiVirus Scan. The Add AntiVirus Scan Task window will appear.

  7. Enter a name for the scheduled task in the Enter a name for the task field.
  8. Click the Browse button.
  9. Select the file or folder that you would like to scan, and click Select.
  10. In the Set a Frequency field, specify whether you want the scan to occur Monthly, Weekly, Daily, or Annually.
  11. If you selected Weekly, select the day of the scheduled scan. If you selected Monthly, specify the date of the scan. If you selected Annually, specify the month and date of the scan.
  12. In the Set the time field, enter the time of day of the scheduled scan.
  13. Click Save and your scheduled task will appear in the Symantec Scheduler window.
Scanning Your Computer
  1. Open Norton AntiVirus
  2. To scan a drive, select the Disk View tab. To scan a file, select the File View tab.

  4. Select the drive, folder, or file that you wish to scan. Click on the Scan/Repair button.
  5. Norton AntiVirus will proceed to scan your selection for viruses. If any of the selected files contain a virus, you can repair or delete a file by selecting that file from the list of infected files and clicking Repair or Delete.
