Symantec Endpoint Protection, Version 11 (Windows)

Symantec Endpoint Protection is designed to detect, remove, and prevent the spread of viruses, spyware, and other security risks. This page will show you how to install and update Symantec Endpoint Protection on a Windows XP (32 or 64-bit) or Windows Vista (32 or 64-bit) system.

Important Information about Versions

You must use the current version of the Symantec antivirus (AV) program in order to be protected from viruses, worms, and other malware.

Note: If you are not sure which version you are have, go to your Start menu, click All Programs and then click Symantec Endpoint Protection. Click Symantec Endpoint Protection again. The Symantec Endpoint Protection Status Window will appear. Click the Help and Support button and then click About. You will find your version above the copyright date.

If you do not have version 11, go to the ITS Software Download page to download a free copy of Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11. (A valid USC login is required.)

ITS provides two different options for Symantec Endpoint Protection: 1) antivirus only and 2) antivirus plus firewall. If you are already running the Windows Firewall, select the antivirus-only version, or client. The antivirus-plus-firewall client is better suited for advanced users who may want to block specific traffic from their computer.

Installation (for both clients)

  1. After downloading the Symantec Endpoint 11 client installation file, double-click the file (SEP11-MR3-AV-x86.exe for AV Only users, or SEP11-MR3-Full-x86.exe for firewall client users) to begin the installation process.

Note: The installer will automatically uninstall Symantec Antivirus 10 if it is detected. You should uninstall other antivirus software before you begin the installation process.

  2. A Symantec Endpoint Protection dialog box will display and begin the installation process.
