The implementation at USC of the Global Directory Services (GDS) allows ISD to support authentication, authorization and personalization for departmental applications. As part of this implementation, USC’s Identity Management initiative is developing a streamlined process to approve and record requests from departments for the use of personal information through the GDS.
This review and approval process follows these steps:
The DSC is broadly representative of the University community, and therefore is an appropriate group to formulate policy and make decisions regarding the use of personal information in departmental applications. The committee meets every three weeks, so requests for attribute release will typically be acted on in three to four weeks.
Our objective is to develop a procedure that assures appropriate care in the use of personal information, while also being responsive to the needs of requesting departments. In this formative stage, we are looking to those requesting data to help refine the request form and subsequent procedures. We appreciate your help in this endeavor.
