 Attribute Release Rules

Requests for use of attributes through Shibboleth or Global Directory Services must be made using the form “Request for Attribute Release through Shibboleth and Global Directory Services, April 5, 2006.”

 Approval of Requests is granted by the Directory Steering Committee (DSC), with advice from GDS/IdM staff.

 Staff will be responsible for consulting with the relevant data stewards, and relaying any concerns to DSC.  Data requests will not be approved until issues raised by the data stewards are resolved.

 The DSC, based on experience with individual requests, is expected to develop guidelines that will in time allow staff to approve routine requests.

 Approval is limited to attributes in the Person Registry and populations currently served through GDS.

 GDS technical team may grant access to attributes for use by other units in testing services.  Before those services go into a production mode, a formal attribute release request must be approved.

 As services request over time to add attributes to the set they are accessing, the documentation of the request must clearly show both the new attributes being requested and the full set the service will be using.
