Virtual Private Network (VPN)

VPN, also called IP tunneling, is a secure method of accessing USC computer resources. The VPN encrypts all traffic to and from a host in order to prevent others from viewing the information. The VPN also provides the user with a virtual USC IP address that allows access to USC resources that restrict access to such addresses.

The Cisco AnyConnect VPN client is available only to members of the USC community with a USC login.

The Cisco AnyConnect VPN client

Cisco AnyConnect is a VPN client that does not require user configuration. This client will work with Windows XP and Vista (32 and 64-bit versions) and Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) and later.

You will need the Java Runtime Environment installed before you will be able to successfully install the AnyConnect client. You can download this Java program at http://www.java.com.

Please Note: For secure wireless and remote access to USC resources, USC account holders should now use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client rather than the old Cisco VPN 3000 client. Although the old client will continue to function, the manufacturer no longer supports the software or provides security patches for it. For full security, users should use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.
