Virtual Private Network (VPN)
VPN, also called IP tunneling, is a secure method of accessing USC computer resources. The VPN encrypts all traffic to and from a host in order to prevent others from viewing the information. The VPN also provides the user with a virtual USC IP address that allows access to USC resources that restrict access to such addresses. The VPN client is available only to members of the USC community with a USC login. Currently, ITS supports only the configuration of your VPN client.
The Cisco VPN 3000 and the Cisco AnyConnect VPN
There are two VPN clients available, the Cisco VPN 3000, downloadable desktop client, and the AnyConnect web-based client. Information for configuring and using the Cisco VPN 3000 is available through the side menu on the right side of this page.
Cisco AnyConnect is a web-based VPN client that does not require user configuration. This web-based client will work with all Windows and Macintosh operating systems, including both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
NOTE: You will need the Java Runtime Environment installed before you will be able to successfully install the AnyConnect client. You can download this Java program at http://www.java.com.
