Disabling Dell QuickSet's Wi-Fi Catcher
Dell QuickSet is a program that comes pre-installed on new Dell Windows Vista laptops. This program contains a Wi-Fi Catcher function that is used to scan and quickly identify available wireless networks.
The Wi-Fi Catcher's scanning activity, however, can cause USC network to slow down and become unusable. To protect the flow of traffic, your laptop may be blocked if it runs the scanning feature in the Dell QuickSet program.
To avoid being blocked, follow the instructions below to disable the Wi-Fi Catcher portion of QuickSet.
- Launch QuickSet by going to Start > All Programs > Dell QuickSet > Quickset
or by clicking the QuickSet icon in the system tray.
- Once you have launched the program, click the Networking button in the upper left corner of the QuickSet screen.
- Next, click Wi-Fi Catcher/Radio Options to launch the Wi-Fi Catcher/Radio Configuration screen.
- Uncheck Enable Wi-Fi Catcher Network Locator.
- Click OK to finish.
